Genealogical Research Services

Our genealogical research services are designed to provide clear, accurate, and meaningful insight into your family’s past. We focus primarily on research within the United States, with specialized expertise in the Upper South, and targeted research in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, and France. Every project is grounded in careful methodology, documentation, and a commitment to understanding the human stories behind the records.

What We Do

We work with a wide range of historical sources—including vital records, census schedules, immigration and military records, land and probate documents, newspapers, and local archives—to build a picture of your ancestry.

Our research process includes:

  • Ancestral and lineage research focused on U.S. records, with targeted international research in the UK, Ireland, Germany, and France on a case-by-case basis.
  • Record retrieval and interpretation across a variety of historical sources.
  • Brick‑wall problem solving, including the ability to distinguish between multiple individuals of the same name living in the same location.
  • Multi‑generation family tree development with fully sourced findings.
  • *Please note that at this time we are unable to travel to states outside of DC other than Virginia and Maryland.

How We Work

We begin by learning about your goals—whether you’re trying to identify a specific ancestor or understand a family line more clearly. From there, we develop a research plan tailored to your questions, the research time, and the available records.

Each project includes:

  • Clear explanations of findings
  • Source citations
  • Thoughtful analysis of conflicting, circumstantial, or ambiguous evidence.

What You Can Expect

Our work is thorough and personally meaningful. You receive research that is documented and presented in a way that helps you understand not only who your ancestors were, but also the world they lived in and the forces that shaped their lives.

Fees

Hourly based research starts at $35 an hour. Any further fees will depend on the desired services factoring in necessary travel expenses; photocopy costs; shipping costs; vital records requests; minority, religious, and language considerations; and any desired targeted research on common names.
